Mitake-juku

Mitake-juku flourished as the town of Ganko-ji Temple from ancient times and after it was organized in 1602, first among the post stations along Nakasendo, it flourished with the passage of people, materials, information and culture. In old streets from Meitetsu “Mitake Station” to the west, there are honjin ruins and Shoya-takeya, which remains just as it was. In particular, the main temple building of Daiji San Ganko-ji Temple in the east entrance of this post station and 24 Buddhist statues in the Temple, which are Important Cultural Properties designated by the national government, give us a feel for history since ancient times.
◆From Mitake-juku to Fushimi-juku
For most of this portion of the course, the Nakasendo overlaps with Route 21 and you can hardly see what used to exist along the Nakasendo in ancient times; however, in the portion of the course far from Route 21, you can see something of what used to be there. There are remains, such as “Oni-nokubizuka”, “Hie-no-Ichiri Zuka” and “Ariwara-no-yukihira’s monument.”
